5:55 AM
Yesterday (Feb 2) I arrived at work at 6:20 AM. My hours of work are 06:30 to 03:00. Getting to work 10 minutes early makes me the first one there, the one that turns on the lights. I decided that day I would work 10 minutes late to see what difference it would make. In this great adventure I will come in early and stay late for the next week. Let's see what happens. It's 5:58 now, gotta go.
One thing I noticed about myself was that I actually adjusted my schedule around my newly self established hours. At times, if I was running behind, I made sure I still made it into work by at least 6:20. There were even a couple of days when I made it in at 6:15. At the end of the day I was always able to do one more small task for the extra ten minutes.
Notable Comments at the Office:
'What are you doing here, trying to make brownie points?' (Day one)
'Are you trying for employee for the month?' (at 3:02 PM)
Conclusion:
Before work, after work, during lunch, or any combination; if you want to get a little head start, 10 minutes works great. That is really all it takes. Doing that one extra task at the beginning or end of the day gives me an extra feeling of accomplishment. No kidding.....ten minutes....try it out.
On a side note:
- If you want to get more work done - any 10 minutes will do.
- If you want to get noticed - stay late
If you come in early and want to get noticed, change your hours to be after the boss gets in.
