After a long day of flying and a good rest, I woke up early to a beautiful sunny day on the island of Oahu. I booked my hotel close to the tour and as it turned out, I was right next door to the Hilton which is where the tours start. Very handy. I booked the first ship out at 9:00 AM since I needed to leave for the airport by noon.
One thing to note is that there are a number of Japanese tourists in Honolulu; so much so, that they book a separate tour in Japanese commentary to accommodate the amount of interest. Mine was the second ship done in english.
As soon as we started our decent, the first thing I saw was a small shark. My camera fingers just weren't quick enough to get a shot but I was fascinated. At a depth of 109 ft, the colors fade to blue. It's hard to pick out the colors of the fish unless the come right up to the porthole. A few did, but not many. They also plant old ship wreckages to attract the fish. The ones we saw had been down there for the last twenty years.
Besides the shark, we saw a couple of sea turtles and two Spotted Eagle Rays. I may have expected to see more and to see a variety of color, but the experience was definitely worth it.
