Adventure 11 - Daily Meditation in February

Meditation isn`t new to me.  I`ve been doing it on and off for several years, but have never really been consistant.  What I want to accomplish is to see what happens during a regular routine, so I made a pact to meditate every night during the month of February.

The biggest impact I've ever had during a meditation was at a seminar with Deepak Chopra when I was in my twenties.  There were hundreds of people in the audience.  The music was soft and soothing as we closed our eyes and listened to his voice.  As I listened, my mind led me to an amazing and beautiful journey through the Garden of Eden as I had imagined it.

While this was happening to me, I thought it was happening to everyone else the same way.  It turns out it doesn't quite work that way.  Everyone has their own experiences in their own way.

During the month of February, I tried a number of different ways to meditate.  Setting an intention and concentrating on my breath is a quick and easy way to just sit an be quiet with myself for 10 to 20 minutes.  During these times I can feel my entire body being breathed which reminds me that I'm connected to life and life is connected to me.

There were times when I felt I needed more concentration and used various guided meditations from different facilitators.  There are a number of ways to be guided through meditation. For those that are wanting to try it, the library has a number of CDs to listen to.  Meditation using this method helped me to focus on specific intentions.

During the last week in February I was at a retreat in Hawaii where we had group meditations a few times a day.  I find group meditations are a great way for me to relax and get into a zone.  I was also able to take home a few new ideas.

What I learned through this process is that meditation is very personal.  For me, it's a way to be quiet and listen to my inner self that can be easily drowned out with the noises of everyday life.  In that space, there is peace and love.  The more I tune into that part of me, the more of who I truly am can imerge and shine through.
